The Natural Trim

The Natural Trim mimics the Natural Wear Patterns of the wild, free-roaming horses of the US Great Basin. Achieving biodynamically balanced hooves requires precision trimming, a marker of the Natural Trim. Facilitating the Natural Trim means that the hoof is not forced into any given shape. Biodynamically balanced hooves based on the U.S. Great Basin Wild Horse Model presented by Jaime Jackson follows a different approach to hoof care. One that looks into other aspects of Natural Horse Care to achieve optimal results. The Natural Trim has its limitations however, and to serve domesticated horses, it requires changes in their lifestyle. Natural Trim is one of the Four Pillars of NHC. When applied correctly, the Four Pillars of NHC provide an environment for strong and healthy hooves and horses.

As an ISNHCP certified Natural Hoof Care Practitioner I take sole responsibility for the trim practice and appointment schedule. Despite growing popularity of DIY approach to hoof care I have come to understand that much harm at the hoof is being done through the “fast-track” online training, and few day “learn the barefoot secrets” clinic gateways. Providers of such education take no responsibility for the long-term consequences of misguided practices. Invariably the hooves get out of control and the sad scenario of the horse being put down is a common place. I am speaking from my own experience, hoof care training requires as much training as any other profession. Natural Hoof Care differs significantly from other trim methods meaning that tools are deployed with consideration to not weaken the hoof armour. Healthy hoof emerges with proper application of the four Pillars of Natural Horse Care. As part of the Natural Hoof Care practice we will be taking measurements using Hoof Meter Reader and create track record of hoof size and angle in relation to the wild horse hoof Litchfield BLM Corrals data produced by Jaime Jackson , it provides invaluable information to the practitioner on hoof health.

Hoof handling and sequencing

The goal of sequencing is to use horses’ natural gait complex for safe and enjoyable trim. Skilled and competent practitioner will not only save their back, but also get the horse to join in the process we call trimming. I aim to integrate NHC and sequencing to prepare the horse for a trim in relaxed and safe atmosphere. It is a fate of an unskilled man to play a tug war with horses’ legs, and risk an injury. Likewise, why should horses participate in forceful practices? It all can be done, with the consent on both parts. Sequencing is essential for us practitioners to serve your horse better, to do our job efficiently and effectively. You can join in the process and learn how to positively reinforce the horse, it will lead us into good working relationship.

Most horses will learn and adapt quickly to sequencing, some will need separate training sessions. Others will need lengthy training of counter conditioning if their history of experiences lead them to become resentful and uncooperative, or dangerous. It does require an experienced person to handle some cases. You can read more about it in the Behavioural Consultations section.

Reasonably Natural Diet Consultation

Natural Horsmanship

Sometimes horses become difficult to handle, they are resentful, angry, or disassociated. In any given case the horse – human communication is broken. Behavioral consultations aim at restoring the means of communication. They place strong value on things like leadership, body language, emotions, and trust. Horses are individuals, however, like humans they have their own repertoire of social behavior. It differs somewhat to what we may be conditioned to believe as acceptable or not.

Horses are individuals, however, like humans they have their own repertoire of social behavior. It differs somewhat to what we may be conditioned to believe as acceptable or not.

As humans we have a responsibility to understand their language, their way of communicating, and adapt to it. Techniques I use in horse – human communication involve positive reinforcement, relative dominance, counter conditioning, and emotional intelligence.

I provide professional, holistic and complementary equine handling service. Behavioral consultation will include hands-on work, practical exercises, and instruction.
Feel free to contact me for more information and initial consultation with no obligation.

Before the visit

New clients can contact me via the contact page. I promise to get back to you as soon as it is possible for me to do so. We will arrange for no obligation call, and a visit. This will give us both an opportunity to get to know one another and learn about your horse’s situation and needs. I will provide you with information about how I work and answer any questions within the domain of my competence. It is my preference to build long-term, trust based relationships with my clientele.

A small reminder that responsibility for the wellbeing of the equine always remains in the hands of the owner. As a Natural Horse Care Practitioner I do not treat, nor diagnose the horse. My domain of competence rests in applying preventative measures based on the Four Pillars of Natural Horse Care founded by Jamie Jackson.

In preparation for the visit please ensure suitable working space is available, and the horse is prepared for the work ahead.

If you have any concerns, questions or suggestions please feel free to reach out. We can arrange a call, or you can drop me a message/email. I will do my best to provide the support and path forward.
