A free consultation gives you an opportunity to “test the waters”, and get to know me. I am looking to develop long-term working relationships with my clients. I aim at holistic care and want to work on all levels to reach optimum results when it comes to the area of hoof care (and horse care). As a client, you will have an opportunity to ask me questions and learn some more about Natural Horse Care and Natural Hoof Care free of charge. My goal is to popularise the idea of the naturalising lifestyle of our domesticated horses, because when they have the optimum conditions to be as they were designed by nature, (as horse owners) we enjoy and benefit from their wellbeing immeasurably. During our first consultation, we can establish the level of care required and adjust it to your needs.

Study Hall Quizzes are designed to help build upon academic skills and knowledge. Natural Horse Care literature provides a vast amount of information not only in relation to the hooves but other aspects that are key to understanding hoof form and function. The pool of knowledge is encapsulated within the U.S. Great Basin Wild Horse Model. If you find some of the areas of the study challenging or need extra help in understanding the training materials feel free to contact me prior to booking an online training session.

Natural Horsemanship – Behavioural Issues
HOOF HANDLING AND SEQUENCING
The goal of sequencing is to use horses’ Natural Gait Complex for safe and enjoyable trim. The skilled and competent practitioner will not only save their back but also get the horse to join in the process we call trimming. I aim to integrate NHC and sequencing to prepare the horse for a trim in a relaxed and safe atmosphere. It is a fate of an unskilled man to play a tug war with horses’ legs, and risk an injury. Likewise, why should horses participate in forceful practices? It all can be done, with the consent of both parties. Sequencing is essential for us practitioners to serve your horses better, and to do our job efficiently and effectively. You can join in the process and learn how to positively reinforce the horse, which will lead us towards a good working relationship.
Most horses will learn and adapt quickly to sequencing, some will need separate training sessions. Others will need lengthy training in counter-conditioning if their history of experiences leads them to become resentful and uncooperative, or dangerous. It does require an experienced person to handle some cases.
Sometimes horses become difficult to handle, they are resentful, angry, or disassociated. In any given case horse-human communication is broken. Behavioural consultations aim at restoring the means of communication. They place a strong value on things like leadership, body language, emotions, and trust. Horses are individuals, however, like humans, they have their own repertoire of social behaviour. It differs somewhat from what we may be conditioned to believe is acceptable or not.
As humans, we have a responsibility to understand their language and their way of communicating and adapt to it. Techniques I use in horse-human communication involves positive reinforcement, relative dominance, counter-conditioning, and emotional intelligence.
I provide professional, holistic and complementary equine handling services. Behavioural consultation will include hands-on work, practical instruction, and take-away exercises.
The minimum Consultation booking is 2 hours.

Natural Hoof Care
The Natural Trim mimics the Natural Wear Patterns of the wild, free-roaming horses of the US Great Basin. Achieving biodynamically balanced hooves requires precision trimming, a marker of the Natural Trim. Facilitating the Natural Trim means that the hoof is not forced into any given shape, but allowed to respond to practitioners mimicking the natural wear patterns. Biodynamically balanced hooves according to the U.S. Great Basin Wild Horse Model is achieved through the application of proven Principles and Practices of Natural Horse Care evidenced further at AANHCP Headquarters Lompoc between 2010 – 2018.
As an ISNHCP Certified Natural Hoof Care Practitioner, I take sole responsibility for the trim practice and appointment schedule. Despite the growing popularity of the DIY approach to hoof care I have come to understand that much harm at the hoof is being done through the “fast-track” online training and a few days of “learn the barefoot secrets” clinic gateways. Providers of such education take no responsibility for the long-term consequences of misguided practices. Invariably the hooves get out of control and the sad scenario of the horse being put down is commonplace. Speaking from my own experience, hoof care training requires as much time in learning theory and practice as any other Profession in a structured and organised way. Natural Hoof Care differs significantly from other trim methods meaning that tools are deployed with consideration to not weaken the hoof armour. Healthy hoof emerges through the diligent application of the four Pillars of Natural Horse Care. As part of the Natural Hoof Care practice we will be taking measurements using Hoof Meter Reader and creating a track record of hoof size and angle in relation to the wild horse hoof Litchfield BLM Corrals data produced by Jaime Jackson, it provides invaluable information to the practitioner on hoof health.
